DIY: framed fabric speakers

I have been swooning over these framed fabric speakers ever since last year's Anthro Christmas catalog. Since they are no longer available, Kiel & I decided to make a customized set for ourselves.

We started by finding an old set of speakers from the thrift store and a few old frames. After measuring the frames, we created boxes to hold the speakers and then go to destructing our speakers. Once we were able to get the speakers out of their original boxes, we measured for and drilled holes into the box. Next we used spray adhesive to attach the fabric to the front of the box. Once the adhesive dried, we attached the frame, added the back to the speaker box, and painted the rest of the box white. A small hole was made to thread through the speaker wires to attach to the speaker box. To liven up the box a bit, we added a bit of fabric around the speaker and walnut veneered plywood to the front. Viola- our framed fabric speaker boxes!
