fireplace renovation

In January we renovated the fireplace in our master bedroom. We went with a herringbone pattern created with white subway tiles. This fireplace was originally put in in the 1930's and was sealed with concrete. While we had originally planned to take the original tiles out, we had to grout over instead. We painted the remaining inside tiles back. We then custom fit the mantel to lay back over fireplace and trimmed around the hearth. And believe it or not I actually helped with this one. Three painful weekends of cutting 45 degree tiles and placing them neatly in line. But it was very much worth it as we are very pleased with how it turned out! (by the way- please ignore the silly heads on a log... didn't have anything else to put in there at the time)
