I love a good lampshade DIY project- a fun and easy way to spruce up a focal piece in the room. While decorating baby m's room, Kiri contacted me about these DIY Drum Lampshade kits from I Like That Lamp. She sent one over for me to try out which was perfect timing as I had not yet figured out what kind of shade I wanted to use in baby m's room. We found this lamp base at the thrift store for just a few dollars and sprayed it black. I had previously used a sweater covered shade but ended up moving that to our bedroom so the lamp was hanging around shadeless again.
With this lampshade kit, all you simply need is the kit and about a cut of fabric (dimensions based on the size of the kit you get). I love this Cotton & Steel cat print so I picked some up at Sew to Speak for my project and got to making.
I have to say that I LOVED working with this lampshade kit. It comes with clear, easy directions, all the supplies you need, is simple to use and the finished product looks great. What I also love is that it is a traditional cylindrical drum which makes using fabric so much easier (you don't end up with large gaps with more cutting and overlapping like in this fabric covered lampshade I made for Homedit). You can also pick a customizable size for your shade (which is great as not all standard shades fit on thrifted or repurposed lamps).
In terms of cost, with the price of a normal shade and excess fabric (needed for those shades that aren't perfectly cylindrical), and spray adhesive you're getting pretty close to the cost of this kit. So save your fingers from stickiness and try out this easy to use kit!
